How PokerSjef Handles Money

PokerSjef records money. It never takes, holds or pays money. The cash stays in the room, and the desk records each amount.

PokerSjef Takes No Payment

No payment passes through PokerSjef. It keeps no card number and no bank details.

PokerSjef takes no share of a buy-in, a rebuy, an add-on or a prize. The players pay the club at the desk, in cash, by Vipps or by card.

An event can be free, give sponsored prizes, or have a prize pool. A free event has no buy-in and no prizes.

The Law and Your Club

The terms of use say that Norwegian law applies. Play only where the law allows it, and follow the rules of your club.

The directors of a club are responsible for how the club uses PokerSjef. This includes what the club records about its players and its money.

Exact Amounts That Nobody Changes

  • PokerSjef keeps each amount exactly, as a whole number of øre or cents.
  • Each record keeps the price at the moment of the sale. A later change of the price does not change a past record.
  • Nobody can edit or delete a recorded buy-in, rebuy, add-on or prize payment.
  • To correct a record, a director records a reversal, with a reason. The reversal points to the original, and both stay on record.
  • The audit log shows who recorded each amount, and when. PokerSjef deletes audit records after two years, but never a money record, a result, a payout or a standing.
  • A screen sends only what the desk asks for, such as a rebuy for one player. The server checks the role, and it calculates the rake, the fee and the prize pool.

The Rake or the Fee

A club can keep a rake or a fee from each paid entry, before the prize pool. The prize pool is what is left.

The records keep the amount that the desk collected and the amount in the prize pool apart.

The club sets its default rake and fee in Club Settings. A new event copies them, and a director can change them for that event. A later change in Club Settings changes no event.

The Prize Pool

The prize pool is what is left of the buy-ins, the rebuys and the add-ons after any rake or fee.

Late entry, rebuys and add-ons close together, after the break that the event names. Then the prize pool is final.

Until then, the Overview tab shows the prize pool as it grows. The room clock can show it too.

Payouts, Rounded to Cash

  • A director shares the prize pool on the Payouts page. There are three ways: a share of the entries, a percentage for each place, or an amount for each place.
  • The entries are every player once, plus every rebuy. An add-on is not an entry. There are never more paid places than players.
  • PokerSjef rounds each prize to the cash unit of the event, such as 50 kr. First place gets what is left, so the prizes always equal the prize pool.
  • A director publishes the payouts. The room clock then shows them, and PokerSjef keeps every revision.
  • When the last players agree a deal, a director records it. A deal changes the money only. The places and the points stay as played.
An Example of the Payouts20 players and 4 rebuys are 24 entries. With 300 kr from each entry, the prize pool is 7,200 kr.15% of 24 is 3.6, so 4 places win a prize.
PlaceBefore the RoundingPrize
13,456 kr3,450 kr
21,728 kr1,750 kr
31,152 kr1,150 kr
4864 kr850 kr
Total7,200 kr7,200 kr

In the default split, 2nd place gets half of what 1st place gets, 3rd place a third, and so on. PokerSjef then rounds the prize of each place after first to a multiple of 50 kr. First place gets what is left.

Prize Payments and the Cash-Up

A director records each prize payment on the Results tab, in cash or by Vipps. A director can pay a prize only against published payouts or a recorded deal.

Until the result is finalized, a director can reverse a payment, with a reason. The payment stays on record, with the reversal beside it.

The cash-up shows what the desk took and the prizes that the club paid, by cash, Vipps and card. It also shows what the cash box should hold at the end.
