How to Start a League or a Season
A season counts every event of the club in a period. A league counts only the events that you choose. Each one has its own standings and its own scoring.
Seasons Are Ready from the Start
- A season is a period of the club’s calendar, such as the year or the autumn.
- Every event that the club plays within those dates counts. There is nothing to tick.
- Every club starts with the year, the current season and the next. Add others on the Ranking page, under Seasons.
- An event counts in every season whose dates include it, so seasons can overlap.
Start a League
- Open the Ranking page. At the top, choose Leagues.
- Press New League. Type the name of the league.
- Under Scoring, keep the default or change it. Then press Create the League.
- Add the events on the page of the league. On the event form, Add a League does the same.
One event can count for several leagues. In a league, an event can also count more than once, for example 2 times for a final.
How the Points Work
- Each player scores once in each event, for their finishing place. A rebuy or an add-on does not give a second result.
- By default, PokerSjef uses field-scaled points. It is PokerSjef’s own default, not ICM and not an industry standard.
- More entries give more points. N is the entries: every player once, plus every rebuy. An add-on is not an entry. The most points in an event are 10 × √N.
- With 16 players, the winner gets 40 points and the last player gets 2 points.
- Each season and each league has its own scoring. Choose field-scaled, either logarithmic system, square root or linear points. You can also use a points table or your own formula.
- Count only the best results of each player, give points for taking part, or give a bonus to the winner.
- Before you save a change of scoring, the page shows what the change would do.

The default system gives more points when more players take part. A club can choose another system for each season and each league.
During and After an Event
- The standings change as each player busts out. The result is final when the event is finalized.
- While late entry is open, the points can change a little, because more players can join or rebuy.
- Players who share a place split the points of the places that they cover equally. This applies to a shared win and to players out on the same hand of hand-for-hand. For example, if first place gives 50 points and second place 40, two players who share first place get 45 points each.
- A private event counts in no season and no league. It still counts in the results of each player.
- Download the results and the standings as a spreadsheet.
Finish a Season or a League
- When the last event is finalized, finish the season or the league. Its events and its scoring are then locked.
- You can finish a league only when every one of its events is finalized.
- Only support can reopen a finished season or league. Only the owner deletes one, and that never deletes an event.
