League Points Calculator

Work out the league points for each place of an event. Choose one of seven points systems, or type your own formula. Nothing that you type leaves this page.

The Event

Entries count each player once and each rebuy once. An add-on is not an entry.

1 gives the normal points. 2 gives double points, for example for a final. It is not the number of the event in the league.

The Points System

The system sets the points for each place. Only a fixed table gives the same points whatever the number of players. Field-scaled, the default, also gives points for the final table, the top places and the win.

Formula10 × √N, shared: 5% taking part, 65% place, 10% final table, 15% top 15%, 5% win

The final table share goes to each place at the final table.

The places in this top part of the entries, rounded up, get the qualified share.

Advanced Settings

Here you set the bonuses, the limits and the rounding. The defaults suit most clubs.

Only this many of the top places get points from the curve. If you leave it blank, every place scores. Points for taking part still go to every player.

Every player in the event gets these points, whatever their place. This rewards the players who come and play.

Only first place gets these points, in addition to the points from the curve.

PokerSjef rounds the points of each event to this many decimals. The standings add up those points.

The Field-Scaled Weights

The cap is the most points that one event gives: the factor × √N. N is the entries: every player once, plus every rebuy. Each share is a part of the cap. The qualification band is the top places that get the qualified share, as a percentage of the entries.

If two players share place 2, each gets 33.09 points. That is the average of the points of places 2 and 3.

Each share is rounded on its own. The points are the exact sum, rounded once.

Players who share a place split the points of the places that they cover equally. A shared win and a tie in hand-for-hand both work this way.

In PokerSjef, a club chooses one system for each season and each league. The standings then add up the points of every event.

How the Points Systems Work

In every system, N and p are the entries: every player once, plus every rebuy. An add-on is not an entry.

The letter r is the final place of the player, from 1 to the number of players. Each player scores once in each event, for their finishing place. A rebuy or an add-on does not give a second result.

Field-Scaled Points

By default, PokerSjef uses field-scaled points. It is PokerSjef’s own default, not ICM and not an industry standard.

The most points in an event are the cap, Cap(N) = 10 × √N. More entries give more points.

  • Every player gets 5% of the most points, for taking part.
  • Up to 65% more comes from the finishing place. The winner gets all of it. With no rebuys, the last player gets none of it.
  • A place at the final table, by default the top 8, adds 10%.
  • A place in the top 15% of the entries, rounded up, adds 15%.
  • The winner adds 5%.

Cap(N) = 10 × √N
F = ((N − r) ÷ (N − 1))²
Points = Cap(N) × (0.05 + 0.65 × F + 0.10 × T + 0.15 × Q + 0.05 × W)

F is the finish factor. T is 1 at the final table, Q is 1 in the qualification band and W is 1 for the winner. Otherwise, each is 0.

PokerSjef keeps the exact figures until the end. Then it rounds the points once, to 2 decimals, and a half rounds up.

With 16 players and 9 rebuys, N is 25. Then the winner gets 50 points and the last player gets 7.07 points.

Linear

Linear gives p − r + 1 points. Each place gets 1 point more than the place below it.

Logarithmic

Logarithmic gives ln(p + 1) ÷ r × 10 points. Place 2 gets half the points of the winner, place 3 a third, and so on.

Square Root

Square root gives √(p + 1) ÷ r × 10 points. As in the logarithmic system, place 2 gets half the points of the winner.

Fullt Hus

Fullt Hus gives 100 × ln((N + 1) ÷ place). The points go down slowly from place to place.

Fixed Points Table

A fixed points table gives the points that you type for each place, first place first. A place after the end of the table gets 0 points.

The linear, logarithmic, Fullt Hus and square-root systems also count the entries. A fixed points table gives the same points, whatever the number of entries.

Custom Formula

Type your own formula. The letters p, N and r mean the same as in the other systems, so you can copy their formulas. Each variable is the figure of one event.

PokerSjef reads the formula as a calculation. It never runs the formula as a program.

Shared Places

Players who bust out on the same hand are tied. They share the best of their places. They split the points of the places that they cover equally. If place 1 gives 50 points and place 2 gives 40 points, two players who share place 1 get 45 points each.

A shared win works in the same way.

Multipliers

In the linear, logarithmic, square-root and Fullt Hus systems, “Multiply the Curve By” multiplies the points from the curve.

In a league, an event can count more than once, for example 2 times for a final. The league’s page shows this beside the event. Seasons count every event once.
