Blind Structure Calculator

Make the blind levels of an event from the players, the stack, the length and your chips. The calculator uses the same rules as PokerSjef. Nothing that you type leaves this page.

The Event

The length includes the breaks. If you leave it blank, the calculator uses the time that the structure needs. You can type 6 or 5 h 30 min.

In a point game, such as Open Face Chinese Pineapple, there are no bets. Each level has a price per point.

Structure

This is the standard structure. It is made for a stack of about 100 big blinds. The blinds take each value of the ladder, for example 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 800. Before late entry closes, they increase faster only if the starting stack is still more than about 35 big blinds at the close. This is the standard structure. Before late entry closes, it increases faster only if the starting stack is still worth more than about 35 points at the close.

This is a fast structure. It is made for a stack of about 100 big blinds and short levels, for example 15 minutes. Until late entry closes, the blinds increase by a third to a half at each level, to about 25 big blinds of the starting stack. After that, they take each value of the ladder. This is a fast structure. This is the classic structure of PokerSjef. It is made for a deep stack of about 200 big blinds. The blinds take each value of the ladder. Levels and Breaks

A break follows each group of this many levels. If the last group is less than half as long as the others, no break comes before it. For no breaks, leave it blank.

If you leave it blank, the first big blind is two of the smallest chip.If you leave it blank, the first price per point is the smallest chip.

After the first break, the levels can be shorter. Late in the event, they are shorter again. A level is never shorter than 10 minutes.

From the level that you choose, the player in the big blind posts one ante for the whole table. Only the no-limit and pot-limit games use it. The fixed-limit games and the stud games do not use it.

Rebuys and Add-Ons

Rebuys and add-ons add chips to the event, so the last blind is higher. If you leave a field blank, the calculator uses the figure in grey.

Chips

Type the value of each chip, with a space between the values.

Every blind and ante is a multiple of the smallest chip. After a colour-up at a break, the levels use the next chip.

The Levels

PokerSjef makes the levels from the figures above: 30 players with 20,000 chips each, over 6 h 50 min. Balanced, levels of 20 minutes, shorter later in the night.

First blinds: 100/200. The players start with 100 big blinds.

19 levels: 15 of 20 minutes and 4 of 15. The blinds go from 100/200 to 10,000/15,000. Until late entry closes, the blinds increase by about 32% at each level. After that, they increase by 33% at most. 6 h of play and 5 breaks, 6 h 50 min in all. If the event runs late, 2 spare levels follow. 600,000 chips in play.

Late entry closes when level 7 starts, so it stays open through level 6 and any break after it. The planned finish is after level 19.

How the Blind Levels Are Made

The calculator uses the rules of the event form in PokerSjef. The same figures give the same levels here and in the app.

The First Level

Level 1 starts at one smallest chip and two. With chips of 100, that is 100/200. If you type a first big blind, the levels start there.

The Ladder

Each big blind is a round amount that the chips can make: 200, 300, 400, 500, 600 and 800, then 1,000, 1,200 and 1,500. The big blind increases at each level.

Late Entry

Late entry, rebuys and add-ons close together at a break, about a third of the way through the levels. Until then, the blinds take each value of the ladder.

The blinds increase faster before the close only if the starting stack is still deep there. After the close, the blinds increase by a third at most at each level.

The Planned Finish

The event is planned to finish when the big blind is about a fortieth of all the chips in play. Then the last two players have about 20 big blinds each.

The chips in play include the rebuys and add-ons that the event can expect. 10% of the players rebuy as often as they can, 10% rebuy some times and 15% rebuy once. Half of the players take the add-on.

Two Spare Levels

Two spare levels follow the planned finish. If the event runs late, the clock continues with them and does not stop. The length of the event counts only the planned levels.

The Four Structures

  • Balanced is the standard structure, for a stack of about 100 big blinds.
  • Turbo is for about 100 big blinds and short levels. Its speed comes from the short levels, not from large steps.
  • Slow Start is for a deep stack of about 200 big blinds. Late entry can close while the stack is still worth about 50 big blinds.
  • Casino takes each value of the ladder in turn, as live events in a casino do. The length of the event follows from the ladder.

Shorter Levels Later

With shorter levels, 30-minute levels change to 20 minutes after the first break and to 15 minutes late in the event. More levels then fit, so the blinds can increase by smaller steps.

Point Games

A point game, such as Open Face Chinese Pineapple, has a price per point in place of the blinds. The price starts at one smallest chip and climbs the same ladder.
