Late Entry and the Prize Pool

Late entry, rebuys and add-ons close together, at a break that the event names. Until then, the field and the prize pool can still grow.

One Close for Three Things

  • Every event names the break after which nobody new can enter.
  • Rebuys and add-ons close at the same time as late entry.
  • Late entry stays open through the level before that break and through the break itself. So players can still enter, rebuy or add on during the break.
  • The event form offers only the levels that a break follows. By default, it chooses the first break at or after a third of the levels.
  • The Structure tab marks that break for everybody, also for the players.

After the Close

  • The desk takes no more entries, and nobody can join the waiting list.
  • After the close, only a director can approve a player, and only if the event allows it. The director gives a reason, and the audit log keeps it.
  • A director can record a rebuy or an add-on past its limit, with a reason. This also stops when late entry closes.

Why the Prize Pool Waits

  • The prize pool is final only when late entry closes. Until then, each new player, rebuy and add-on adds to it.
  • The paid places count the entries, so they also wait for the close.
  • Publish the payouts when the prize pool is final. The room clock then shows them, and it tells the room about the bubble.
  • Hand-for-hand cannot start until late entry is closed and the prize pool is final.
  • The final table also waits: the players draw seats at Table 1 only when late entry is closed.

Places and Points During Late Entry

  • The places can still change while late entry is open. Each new player moves the players who are already out one place back.
  • While late entry is open, the points can change a little, because more players can join or rebuy.
  • A player who is deciding on a rebuy has no finishing place yet.

When PokerSjef makes the levels, it counts the rebuys and add-ons that the event can expect. The last level is then about a fortieth of all the chips in play.
